My copy arrived about 2 weeks ago, but I haven't made time to read it in earnest yet, Marti, but I will soon! (Perhaps while on my way out to SJC the beginning of next month).

There is another example that has two search forms, rather than a search form and a drop-down menu, in Chapter 1, taken from zvents. In the text I focus on zvents' use of faceted navigation but I also wanted to illustrate its well-done use of scoped search as well. Here is the figure:

In some cases it is useful to have multiple search forms for refining fields (so user can indicate, say, both location and restaurant type) as long as either one is optional. This is sometimes referred to as scoped search.
I discuss this in <a href="http://searchuserinterfaces.com/book/sui_ch4_query_specification.html#section_4.2" rel="nofollow">Section 4.2</a> in the chapter on Query Specification.

awesome, just ordered it. Do you also answer this question that has been bugging me and i haven't seen in the online version yet: "is it better to have 2 than 1 searbox for queries that state a WHAT and WHERE phrase?" local search likes...

thanks

Thanks, Greg. That's what I get for using the WYSIWYG editor rather than typing in html directly. I've fixed it.
